Earth and the Moon

From the model of Venus, take the walking path towards the southwest where Earth can be found in about 100m. The model of Earth has an announcement board which also has the guidemap text for Venus and Mars. The model of the Sun is 149.6m north of the Earth and is clearly visible because the woods have beeen cleared between the models.

Because vandalism has plagued the Earth and the Moon it has been implemented a little differently than the other planets (see picture).

earth and the moon
The distance between the Earth and the moon is in the same scale as the other models.

Earth

The Earth is one of the nine planets in the solar system. The Earth has an atmosphere which is also covered by clouds. The Earth has one relatively large moon. Earth is the only heavenly body that we know of that harbours life. The Earth's diameter is 12,760km (12.8mm in the model). The average distance from the sun is 149.6 million km (149.6m in the model). The orbital period around the Sun takes one year. The Moon's diameter is 3,480km (3.5mm in the model) and its distance from the Earth is 384,400km (38.4cm in the model). The red line on top of the model of the Earth and the Moon describes the distance light travels in a second (300,000km). It might be noted that the model of the Sun and the real Sun in the sky appear to be the same size when viewed from the model of the Earth.
