The Colosseum at El Jem, nee Thysdrus, was the third largest in the Roman world believed to have been built sometime around AD 230-240. It rises rather abruptly from the city skyline and is an awesome sight when entering the city from the north by car. It is a dramatic contrast to the modern El Jem.
